Element is extremely pleased to see the introduction of ZigBee 3.0 which will mean fresh opportunities for developers and manufacturers to more easily design and bring to market new Internet of Things (IoT) products and services, by enabling seamless interoperability between different device types.

ZigBee 3.0 defines the widest range of device types including home automation, lighting, energy management, smart appliance and security sensors products.

ZigBee 3.0 is backward compatible with earlier ZigBee Home Automation and ZigBee Light Link profiles, meaning that products already certified will continue to work with devices which make use of the newer version of the ZigBee standard.

The use of the ZigBee standardised Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrade mechanism also allows products which have implemented this feature the option to upgrade to newer firmware toenable them to make full use of the ZigBee 3.0 functionality if desired.

Element was selected by the ZigBee Alliance to develop and provide the official ZigBee 3.0 test harness that will enable manufacturers to perform pretesting of their designs at every stage of the development process, allowing them to fully prepare for the formal tests required by the ZigBee Certified programme.

This will provide product developers with the highest confidence that all required criteria have been met prior to official certification, lower their development costs and get products to market faster.
